Celine Dion isn’t sure how her heart will go on after her beloved husband, René Angélil, dies, but she is certain about how they’ll say good-bye when the time comes.
“Rene [said] to me, ‘I want to die in your arms’’, Dion, 47, told USA Today. ‘OK, fine, I’ll be there, you’ll die in my arms.”
Angélil, 73, has been battling throat cancer and has been fed intravenously (through a tube) for the last two years.
“All my grieving, it was during this last year,” the singer said. “I think I’ve got this. For now.
“When it hits me, it’s going to hit me,” she added. “But my biggest job is to tell my husband, ‘We’re fine. I’ll take care of our kids. You’ll watch us from another spot,’” she told the magazine.
Over the last year, she said, conversations have been intense and emotional. The power duos’ doctors don’t know how long Angélil has left, she said.
The couple met in 1980, when Dion was 12 and Angélil was 38. They married in 1994, and have three sons together – Rene Charles, 14, and twins Eddy and Nelson, 4.

Meanwhile, after her year-long hiatus from the stage to care for husband, Dion is returning to her Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace. She says the decision wasn’t entirely her own.
Angélil wants his wife to return to doing what she loves, she said.
“I didn’t want to be here at first, I don’t need it,” the megastar told USA Today. “Don’t get me wrong, I love singing for people, but I have priorities.”
Dion’s return to the stage is more a testament to her husband and the success they’ve shared together than it is about entertaining the fans.
“That first show, it will be fragile,” Dion said. “There will be moments of emptiness, laughter, awkwardness, tearing up.”
Skillful manager
Angélil has skillfully guided Dion’s career to the tune of 220 million albums sold. If he can’t be at her debut return show on Thursday, he’ll watch a live stream at the couple’s Las Vegas home.
“When you see someone who is fighting so hard, it has a big impact on you,” she said. “You can have your shaking knees at the end, but when someone you love falls and needs help, it’s not time to cry,” Dion said. “Afterwards, sure. But not yet.”
